Matt is an experienced civil litigator with substantial experience and expertise representing clients in a wide range of civil matters. His practice covers civil and domestic litigation, including adoption, serious personal injury and wrongful death (motor vehicle accidents, dog bites, and slip-and-falls), probate litigation, estate administration, real estate disputes, contracts, and commercial disputes involving businesses, banks, and collections. He regularly represents both Plaintiffs and Defendants in complex and contested matters, but is also prepared to cost effectively handle cases that are uncontested and ripe for a resolution. While Matt
advocates for alternative dispute resolution, such as Mediation, he also recognizes that some disputes cannot be resolved by agreement and will require the Court’s intervention.
In addition to his litigation practice, Matt assists with business formation and sales, estate administration, real estate closings, and the preparation of contracts, all designed to address each client’s current challenges while anticipating future needs. Matt advises clients in transactional matters with an eye toward resolving and / or proactively avoiding disputes whenever possible. Matt’s clients benefit from his practical insights and realistic assessments which often allow his clients to identify and avoid problems when agreements are made, when contracts are drafted, and when businesses are formed. His clients include local small businesses, sole proprietors, individuals, governments, and large corporations. Matt is also frequently retained by out-of-state clients as local counsel for matters in the Mountain Judicial Circuit. While Matt maintains a statewide practice, the majority of his practice is focused in the Mountain Judicial Circuit, Banks, Habersham, Stephens, and Rabun Counties.
